Last Night in Hawai’i

July 16th, 2010 No comments

It’s funny that I would wait until our last night in Hawai’i to write a blog post. I barely ever write in this blog anyway so I think I’m ok.

So I’m sitting here at my sister’s house on our last night here thinking about the two weeks Vicki, Ella, and I have been here. It was really good to see my family again. It has only been 8 months for me but for Vicki, it’s been 5 and a half years. And Ella has just met her grandma and aunties and uncles for the first time. I wish we had more time to see more of my aunties and uncles and cousins and friends too.

I’ve learned a couple of things on this trip also.

- Traveling with infants is hard. Not just the plane ride either, which actually wasn’t too bad until the end of the second flight. But also the logistics of having an infant with you when you want to go places and do things. Ella has learned to hate her car seat and going anywhere in the car. She wasn’t a big fan of the ocean. She wasn’t too keen on meeting new people, at first. Our days needed to be planned well enough to accommodate feedings and naps and, of course, bed time. Suffice it to say, we are hoping she enjoys these parts of the trip next year when we come back.

- Living on the mainland for so long, I’ve become spoiled with air conditioning. Growing up in Hawai’i, we never had a/c. If it got too hot, we would just turn on the fan and open the windows. Or just sit outside in the tradewinds. After living in Florida for so long, I feel like I need the a/c running in order to be truly cool, even though the weather has been pretty nice here these last two weeks. Thanks Ku’ulei and Donald for letting us turn it on at least a couple times.

- Being away so long, I find myself craving food from places that my family probably never go to unless I’m here. One of my aunties today said something about how they never go to Zippys. I’ve been three times. My sister commented on how she never eats at Big Kahuna Pizza unless I’m here. I guess because I can’t get these things in Florida, it’s all I crave when I’m here.

By this time tomorrow, we’ll be halfway to LA on our way back to Florida. I always hate the last night in Hawai’i because I hate hate hate leaving, every time. I already have that Na Leo Pilimehana song stuck in my head. Even though I know this time that I will be back in a year, I can’t help but be sad to have to go back.

Alright, I’ve created a blog for the baby.  It’s called Islandcub.com.  If you’re wondering why the name, you can check it out there.  Suffice it to say, it’s a Scrubs thing… :)

First Ultrasound!

May 1st, 2009 No comments

Our baby!So Vicki and I just got back from our first ultrasound!  It was very cool to see our baby for the first time and hear its heart beating.  At one point, the baby even squirmed around!

Here is a picture I took of one of the ultrasound pictures.

Vicki is going to scan them in and post them on her Facebook account.  I’ll do the same when I get home from work.

Good news!

April 4th, 2009 No comments

So everyone that reads this blog has probably already heard the good news, but I’m gonna post it anyway.  This is kind of a week late, but it doesn’t matter.

So anyway, Vicki’s pregnant!  She took a pregnancy test last Friday and it was positive.  Before we told anyone, we wanted to go to her doctor to make sure, and they confirmed!  She is going on her 8th week now and is due probably sometime in November!  We are going to do her first ultrasound on May 1st.

We’re both really happy.  We’ve been trying for a long time now.  Vicki had started seeing a fertility specialist and we were actually getting ready to try insemination.  Luckily for us, it wasn’t necessary!

Anyway, that’s it for now.  I think Vicki and I are going to start a blog for baby.  Keep posted here for that. :D

Happy New Year!

December 31st, 2008 No comments

It’s not quite midnight yet but I’m gonna post this now. Vicki, Brittany, and I are in North Carolina right now visiting Vicki’s family. We’re sitting in front of the remnants of a fireplace fire waiting for the clock to strike twelve. So I wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

And if my mom reads this before I get a chance to call her (sometime tomorrow probably), I would call right now but this house is a giant dead zone and it’s too cold to go outside to use the phone. :)

Happy Anniversary to Vicki and I!

December 22nd, 2008 No comments

4 years ago today, Vicki and I were in Hawai’i exchanging wedding vows.  It really doesn’t feel like it’s been that long.  My mom likes to remind me of how long it’s been, since that is also the last time we were in Hawai’i.

Annual Holiday Gift Exchange

December 18th, 2008 No comments

So we had our annual gift exchange today at work.  Basically, everyone picks a number.  Starting from 1, people can either pick a gift from the table or steal a gift from someone that already picked one.  The person with number 1 is allowed at the end to steal a gift from someone if they so choose.  As far as stealing gifts, you are allowed to steal a gift from anyone that already has one, but each gift can not be stolen more than 3 times.  Once it’s been stolen for the third time, it can no longer be stolen.
